(Ongoing artistic research project)
The first seed of this research was sown during a residency at the Dansand! festival in Oostende in 2014, where I walked the green path around the city. During this walk I did not look to the left nor to the right, but only concentrated on the ground: the different types of pavement, the physical contact, the sound of gravel under my shoes. I gave a lecture and created a booklet out of this experience (see Publications).
More than ten years later, I picked up this thread as the starting point for a more ambitious artistic research project, which consists of two parts. 1. Exploring the dialogue between the walker and the walking route using a typology of roads and paths, and investigating the feeling of time and space, i.e. rythm. 2. Presenting this research to an audience in an indoor space with the aid of objects, sound, light, etc.
During a residency at nadine in November 2025 I worked in collaboration with Ondine Cloez and Miriam Rohde to investigate how this research could be presented to an audience in an indoor space through readings accompanied by sound, light, and objects.
In 2027, I will continue this research, with the support of a grant from the Flemish Community (Vlaamse Gemeenschap). I will have residencies at La Part du Feu in January and at nadine in November. In June, I will organise a workshop. In between, I will take time to walk, read, think and write.
